It used to be that only the strong and powerful of the world were able to build nations and enact laws. The world, however, is changing, and the individuals responsible for making the laws have changed from the Kings and Rulers to committees, lawyers, and experts. The field of study that is adding the most to the practice of nation-building and the creation of new legal systems is comparative constitution law.

Comparative Law is a term used to describe the field of study that deals with looking at different legal systems and the components that make them up and attempting to compare them to those of other countries and regions. In doing this, researchers are politicians are able to understand why certain policies work and others don’t, as well as gaining some perspective into how different social norms play into the laws that get enacted. Sujit Choudhry is currently the Dean of the College of Law at UC Berkeley, check He has been an academic for most of his life, and he is seen as a foremost authority in the area of comparative constitution law.
